How to Celebrate your Birthday 2,586 Miles Apart

My twin and I live 2,586 miles apart, which can be challenging when we want to celebrate our birthday together... So, you may wonder, how does one accomplish this feat?  Well, I will let you in on our not so secret, secret... SKYPE!  Yes, one of the wonders of modern technology that I actually bought into.  The beauty of 'skype' is that it is free, and when equipped with a camcorder on your computer, one can actually communicate with another "Skypie" virtually.

We literally spent hours together just talking, drinking, cooking, eating, and more talking... it really felt as though we were in the same room.

A few years ago we started a new tradition of choosing an approximate time that we can watch a movie together in our respective coast then discuss it afterward.  Due to the 3 hours time difference it was a little challenging.  This year, we decided to set a 'skype' date and we would cook and eat together.

The plan was to start around 8pm Eastern Time, that's 5pm Pacific Time.  As it turned out I started the night off by dropping a bottle of crushed tomatoes in the fridge, all over my jeans and slippers, and the floor.  It took over half an hour to clean up and was probably a manifestation my subliminal desire to eat later. Later on, adding to our time goal, my sister spilled some sugar over her computer, some file holders, and her 'so-clean-you-can-lick-food-off-my-floor' floor.  By the time we finally sat down to eat, it was 9:30pm for me and 12:30pm for her.  In spite of the mishaps, we both had a great time and both meals and desserts were wonderful.

We had similar menus with a few differences.  She also added a turnip to her potatoes and lightly sauted her spinach to use in the salad along with some pickled roots.  Her dessert was made with a shortbread crust (from the "Joy of Cheesecake") and was like a lemonbar.  Bellow is my menu.
